It’s been a while since I’ve done this kind of post. I love posting about awkward English signs in Korea—that’s why I’ve done it daily for 3 ½ years. With this being my penultimate post of 2024, I thought it was high time I thank my followers again. I want to thank all my followers for your support—whatever form that comes in. From likes and comments to shares and submissions, I thank you for your support.

Today marks my 1,286th day of posting consecutively on Instagram. I started posting only on Instagram. But I soon began posting simultaneously on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I’ve since stopped posting on X/Twitter, as my scheduling program no longer supports that integration. Since I sometimes post more than once a day, I’ve got 1,400+ posts on Instagram. If you’ve read any of my personal update posts, you’ll know I love a good streak. No plans for that streak to end anytime soon.

I need to thank my followers for sharing pictures with me

I could never do this on my own. I’ve collected hundreds of images of awkward English signs in Korea myself. But I’ve only got enough for about a year and a half of posts. My collection has grown to 1,500+ pictures of awkward English signs in Korea. Just over a third of them are my personal pictures, more than 550.

But that means friends, strangers, and followers have shared almost 1,000 pictures of awkward English signs in Korea with me. People continue to share pictures nearly every week, with Friday being the day I update my collection. There are occasional weeks where I have nothing to add, but those are few and far between.

How many people have shared pictures of awkward English signs in Korea with me? I’ve had more than 210 individuals share pics with me. That’s a lot of love! But there are some people who’ve shared more than others. Here are my top 15 contributors. I’ve used initials for people who’ve asked to remain “anonymous” in my posts. I’ve credited those who’ve permitted me to do so in my posts.

These top 15 contributors have almost matched my personal collection. They’ve shared 500+ pics between them. Without their support and taking the time to share these pics, I wouldn’t have had enough content. I wouldn’t have been able to keep posting as long as I have. 

With the unused pics currently in my collection, I’ve still got enough pics for more than a year’s worth of posting. And that’s without adding to my current collection at all. But we all know that’s not gonna happen. Whenever I do venture outside, I usually add a picture or two. And as I mentioned, the pics keep coming in each week.

Thank you to everyone who’s shared a pic or permitted me to use a pic. I couldn’t do this without you. But an extra special thank you to my top 15 contributors. 

I need to thank my followers on Instagram

When I decided to do this, I decided Instagram was the best platform for my idea. After figuring out how to post about language using images, it’s the first path I went down. And while I’m still shy of 300 followers, I have some loyal supporters. I don’t have access to stats showing which followers have liked or commented on my posts the most. But I know my feed. I get notifications of likes and posts and know who’s interacting with my posts the most often.

So, in alphabetical order (cause I don’t have actual stats), I’d like to thank my most loyal supporters on Instagram.

I also need to thank my followers on Facebook

I quickly realised that Instagram made it tough to share links. Thus, I turned to other platforms, including Facebook. I use Facebook more than any other social media platform to stay in touch with friends and family. That made it a likely place to find some support for this venture. And it hasn’t disappointed.

Just like with Instagram, I don’t have access to data showing my top supporters, but again, I know who’s supporting me. I also get notifications of likes and comments. And just like Instagram and all the social media platforms I use, I try to respond to every comment.

After doing a quick review of my Facebook page, here are my top 15 supporters on Facebook. Again, they’re listed in alphabetical order. I’ve used full names here because this information is clearly visible on my Facebook page.

I must thank two more people—my Korean translators

There are two more people I have to thank—my Korean translators. To extend my reach on Instagram, I add a Korean first line to my posts to engage with Korean speakers. After all, I’m trying to reach Koreans who make mistakes with English in their signage and menus so that I can help them. Initially, my wife helped me (she also translated a few of my blogs into Korean), but she got too busy. I then turned to my son. Once a month, I badger him for a week until he translates the first lines of my posts for the upcoming month.

Though they choose not to support me on any of the four social media platforms I post on daily, I’ll forgive them. 😉 They’ve supported me in other ways throughout the years.

First, I have an “urgent” request. I try to do themed posts for holidays and such, but I can only do that if I have relevant pictures. I’ve got a couple of Christmas- and New Year’s-related ones, but I’d love some new examples for this year. 

Please watch for any Christmas or New Year’s signs, products, or ads with awkward English in them. And, of course, please share them with me! If you stumble across any signs or other examples related to different holidays, please share! I’ll add them to my collection for the next time those holidays roll around.
